Over 200 new Afghan refugees will soon call our Greater Charlottesville community home. Rapidly resettled here in the wake of the US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, most of these families will arrive with almost nothing but the clothes on their backs. Their urgent needs range from housing to transportation to basics like food, clothing, and diapers.

You can help our new neighbors.

ReImagineCVA.org, a partnership between the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, United Way of Greater Charlottesville, and other local organizations, was created to help local citizens find ways to be meaningfully engaged in their community. ReImagineCVA.org drives volunteers to where they are needed and connects donors to the causes and initiatives that need their support.

“Once again, our community is demonstrating how generous and welcoming we can be. Local organizations are rallying to help Afghan refugees in Charlottesville, and ReImagineCVA wants to support their efforts,” said United Way President Ravi Respeto. “ReImagineCVA reached out to the local experts— Welcoming Greater Charlottesville, International Rescue Committee, and International Neighbors—so that the site provides the most up-to-date information on how people can best help the Afghan refugees joining our community.”

ReImagineCVA.org has information on hundreds of local organizations, listing volunteer needs, requests to donate items, and other ways to help. Ravi added, “If you want to learn how you can help these refugee families, I really encourage you to visit ReImagineCVA.org to get connected to the organizations supporting our new neighbors.”
